The Carthage College women's volleyball team (28-6, 7-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 11th in the Nov. 1 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll and first in the Oct. 27 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional poll, swept North Park University (15-18, 0-7 CCIW), 3-0, on Tuesday night, Nov. 1 in a CCIW Women's Volleyball Tournament play-in match at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. The top-seeded Lady Reds' winning set scores over the eighth-seeded Vikings were 25-17, 25-6 and 25-7.

Carthage's
Michelle Madeja (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) set a school match record by hitting .824 for 15-19 attempts (15 kills, 1 error, 17 attempts). Madeja broke a mark of .733 set by Angie Phillips versus Millikin on Nov. 1, 1996.Â
Dani Steffa (Sr. Oregon, Ill.) had seven kills and hit .538.Â
Cindy Cavanagh (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Aurora-Waubonsie Valley) had seven kills with a .462 attack percentage, and
Lauren Dembkowski (Sr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) also had seven kills with a .312 mark.

In the three other play-in matches on Nov. 1, second-seeded Millikin University (26-10, 6-1) swept seventh-Augustana College (Ill., 9-23, 1-6), 3-0; third-seeded and No. 17 Elmhurst College (29-4, 5-2) swept sixth-seeded Illinois Wesleyan University (19-14, 2-5), 3-0; and fourth-seeded Wheaton College (Ill., 22-12, 4-3) swept fifth-seeded North Central College (18-16, 3-4), 3-0. Millikin's winning set scores over Augustana (Ill.) were 25-12, 25-14 and 25-16. Elmhurst's winning scores over Illinois Wesleyan were 25-18, 25-23 and 25-18, and Wheaton's winning scores over North Central were 26-24, 25-21 and 25-23.

With the win over North Park, Carthage secured the home court for the Friday-Saturday, Nov. 4-5 CCIW Women's Volleyball Tournament.  The Lady Reds will play Wheaton (Ill., 22-12) in a 7 p.m. semifinal match on Friday, Nov. 4, with Millikin (26-10) taking on Elmhurst (29-4) in the other semifinal contest beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Saturday, Nov. 5 championship match starts at 2 p.m., with the winner claiming the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship.
