Carthage Men's Soccer Plays Host to Elmhurst on Nov. 2 in a CCIW Tournament Semifinal Game

Red Men Making Their Ninth Conference-Tournament Appearance

The Carthage College men's soccer team (12-5-2, 5-1-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), the top-seeded team in the CCIW Men's Soccer Tournament and ranked fourth in the Nov. 1 National Soccer Coaches Association Central Region poll, plays host to fourth-seeded Elmhurst College (8-6-4, 3-2-2 CCIW) on Wednesday, Nov. 2 in a CCIW tournament semifinal game at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis., beginning at 7 p.m. 

Second-seeded North Park University (10-2-3, 4-2-1 CCIW) will play host to the third-seeded Wheaton College (Ill., 10-7-2, 4-2-1 CCIW) in the other semifinal contest.  The highest-remaining seed after Wednesday's semifinals will play host to the Saturday, Nov. 5 tournament-championship game.
 
CCIW Tournament Notes: Carthage is making its ninth appearance at the CCIW Men's Soccer Tournament, which is in its 10th year in 2011.  Eight of the Red Men's nine playoff teams lost in the semifinals, with the 2008 team playing Wheaton College (Ill.) to a 0-0 tie in double-overtime in the title game…Carthage lost to North Park University, 1-0, in last year's semifinals…in Carthage's regular-season contest against Elmhurst College on Oct. 8, the Red Men and the Bluejays played to a 0-0 tie in double-overtime at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.…Wheaton (Ill.) had qualified for all 10 conference tournaments, has reached the finals in all 10 and has won the title game on four occasions…North Park has qualified for the tournament five times and won the 2004, 2005 and 2010 events…North Park won last year's title game, 3-2 in overtime, over Wheaton (Ill.)…both the 2008 and 2009 conference-tournament title games ended in a tie, with Wheaton (Ill.) advancing from both on shootouts.
