The Carthage College women's volleyball team (18-4, 4-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked seventh in the Oct 4 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, lost a pair of matches on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Wisconsin-Platteville Tournament at Williams Fieldhouse in Platteville, Wis. The Lady Reds fell to Elmhurst College (18-4), 3-2, before being swept by No. 24 Wisconsin-Platteville (18-7), 3-0. The Bluejays' winning set scores over the Lady Reds in the non-conference match were 14-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-17 and 15-13. The Pioneers' winning scores were 25-20, 25-16 and 25-23.
The loss to Elmhurst snapped Carthage's 14-match win streak, the third-longest winning streak in school history. The Lady Reds won a pair of matches on Friday night, Oct. 7, sweeping Augustana College (Ill., 7-12), 3-0, before outlasting No. 26 Wartburg College (17-7), 3-2. The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Vikings in a non-conference match were 25-14, 25-14 and 25-9, and their winning scores over the Knights were 21-25, 25-20, 25-23, 16-25 and 15-9.

Michelle Madeja (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) led Carthage in the Augustana (Ill.) match with eight kills and a .583 attack percentage. Middle blocker
Cindy Cavanagh (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Aurora-Waubonsie Valley) had nine kills and hit .471 with two blocks solos and two block assists, while outside hitter
Lauren Dembkowski (Sr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) had five kills .308. Setter
Drewann Pancratz (Sr., Schaumburg, Ill.) averaged 7.00 assists per set. Against Wartburg, Madeja had 14 kills, Dembkowski 11 and Cavanagh 10 with three block assists.
In the loss to Elmhurst, Madeja had 16 kills but hit just .111 with nine attack errors. Dembkowski had 14 kills and hit just .189, while outside hitter
Dani Steffa (Sr., Oregon, Ill.) totaled 11 kills with a .304 attack percentage. In the Wisconsin-Platteville contest, Madeja had 11 kills and hit .250. Madeja was named to the all-tournament team. Carthage travels to Decatur, Ill., on Tuesday, Oct. 11 to play CCIW-opponent Millikin University in a 7 p.m. match at the Griswold Center.
