No. 7 Women's Volleyball Sweeps Illinois Wesleyan on Oct. 4

Wisconsin-Platteville Tournament Next for the Lady Reds on Friday-Saturday

The Carthage College women's volleyball team (16-2, 4-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked seventh in the Oct 4 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, swept CCIW-opponent Illinois Wesleyan University (10-9, 1-3 CCIW), 3-0, on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.  The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Titans were 25-19, 25-21 and 25-19. Carthage has won 12 matches in a row, the third-longest winning streak in school history.
 
Carthage jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first set and led by 10, 18-8.  The Titans pulled to within five, 22-17, and again at 24-19, before Carthage won by six, 25-19.  The Lady Reds pulled away to a 16-10 lead in the second set and made it 19-12 before Illinois Wesleyan pulled to within three, 24-21.  The Lady Reds won the second set, 25-21.  Carthage fell behind, 10-6, in the third set before going on a 10-3 run to take a three-point lead, 16-13.  The Lady Reds went on to win by six, 25-19.
 
Outside hitter Michelle Madeja (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) led Carthage with 14 kills and a .250 attack percentage.  Middle blocker Cindy Cavanagh (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Aurora-Waubonsie Valley) had 10 kills and hit .500 (10-1-18), while outside hitter Lauren Dembkowski (Sr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) had nine kills and hit .308.  Setter Drewann Pancratz (Sr., Schaumburg, Ill.) averaged 11.67 assists per set.  Maddie Greybar led the Titans with nine kills.
 
On Friday-Saturday, Oct. 7-8, the Lady Reds travel to Platteville, Wis., for the Wisconsin-Platteville Tournament at Williams Fieldhouse.  Carthage plays Augustana College (Ill.) on Friday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. and No. 26 Wartburg College at 8 p.m.  On Saturday, Oct. 8, the Lady Reds face Elmhurst College at Noon and No. 24 Wisconsin-Platteville at 2 p.m.
