Women's Volleyball Wins its Ninth CCIW Title on Oct. 25 with a 3-0 Sweep at Augustana (Ill.)

Top-Seeded Lady Reds Play Host to North Park in a Nov. 1 CCIW Tournament Play-in Match

Number nine.  The Carthage College women's volleyball team (27-6, 7-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 10th in the Oct. 25 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll and first in the Oct. 21 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional poll, won its ninth CCIW title on Tuesday night, Oct. 25 with a 3-0 sweep over Augustana College (Ill., 8-20, 1-6 CCIW) at the Roy J. Carver Center in Rock Island, Ill.  The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Vikings were 25-21, 25-13 and 25-9. 

The nine league title ties Carthage with Elmhurst College.  The Bluejays won CCIW titles in 1986-88, 1998 and 2000-04.  The Lady Reds won in 1990, 1993, 2004-09 and 2011.
 
With the win, Carthage also secured the top seed in the CCIW Women's Volleyball Tournament.  Carthage will play host to No. 8 seed North Park University (15-17, 0-7 CCIW) in a Tuesday, Nov. 1 play-in match at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis., beginning at 7 p.m.  Should the Lady Reds defeat the Vikings, Carthage would play host to the remainder of the tournament at Tarble Arena on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 4-5.

In the three other play-in matches on Nov. 1, No. 2 Millikin University (25-10, 6-1) plays host to No. 7 Augustana College (Ill., 9-22, 1-6); No. 3 Elmhurst College (28-4, 5-2) entertains No. 6 Illinois Wesleyan University (18-14, 2-5); and No. 4 Wheaton College (Ill., 21-12, 4-3) plays host to No. 5 North Central College (18-16, 3-4).
 
In the win over Augustana (Ill.), Carthage's Michelle Madeja (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and Lauren Dembkowski (Sr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) each had six kills, while setter Drewann Pancratz (Sr., Schaumburg, Ill.) averaged 6.0 assists per set.  Emily Leazer topped the Vikings with 12 kills, while Brianna Skeens added 10 kills.
