The Carthage College men's soccer team (8-5-2, 2-1-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked sixth in the Oct. 11 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Central Region poll, edged CCIW-opponent Millikin University (0-14-0, 0-4-0 CCIW), 1-0, on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 15 at the Millikin Soccer Complex in Decatur, Ill.

Carthage broke a scoreless tie with a goal by Aleks Urosevic (Sr., Skokie, Ill./Wilmette-Loyola Academy) at 37:35 first period, assisted by Mike Heika, and that was the scoring.  The Red Men out-shot the Big Blue, 22-3, with goalkeeper Milan Tijanic (Jr., Glenview, Ill./Park Ridge-Maine East) collecting his fifth season shutout.

“Playing OK and winning is a sign of a great team,” said Carthage coach Steve Domin.  “Our midfielders moved the ball around well, and we owned the time of possession.  Millikin did a nice job of keeping players behind the ball on a small field and their goalie was the man of the match.  Alex Urosevic, who's been hurt most of the season, came up big when called on.  We spent a lot of energy in our last match versus Wheaton, coupled with a four-hour drive and windy conditions made for an interesting day.  We're doing a great job this year of our-cornering our opponents.  We have also controlled our opponents the last few games, defined the tempo of the matches, and have put up 40 shots against varying styles of play.  Right now I feel we are one of the most dangerous teams in the country laying in the weeds.”

Carthage travels to De Pere, Wis., on Wednesday, Oct. 19 to play non-conference opponent St. Norbert College (1-10-1) in a 7 p.m. game at Donald J. Schneider Stadium.
