Women's Volleyball Goes 3-1 at Oct. 14-15 Midwest Invitational

No. 10 Lady Reds Play Host to North Central on Tuesday

The Carthage College women's volleyball team (22-5, 5-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 10th in the Oct 11 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, went 3-1 at the Friday-Saturday, Oct. 14-15 Calvin College/Hope College "Midwest Invitational Tournament." 

Carthage split a pair of matches on Friday, Oct. 14 at Calvin's Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich., sweeping Alma College (14-7) before being swept by No. 1 and defending-national-champion Calvin (21-0), 3-0, The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Scots were 25-19, 25-16 and 25-15, while the Knights' winning scores were 25-9, 25-20 and 25-13. 

On Saturday, Oct. 15, the Lady Reds swept the College of St. Benedict (16-7) and swept No. 14 Hope (18-4), also 3-0, at Hope's DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland, Mich.  The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Blazers were 25-16, 25-10 and 25-22, and their winning scores over the Flying Dutch were 25-15, 25-23, 25-13. 

In the win over Alma, Cindy Cavanagh (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Aurora-Waubonsie Valley) had 11 kills and hit .346, while Lauren Dembkowski (Sr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) had 10 kills.  Calvin' Lizzie Kamp collected a match-high 14 kills and hit. .480 in the win over Carthage, while Knights setter Megan Rietema averaged a whopping 15.33 assists per set.  Michelle Madeja (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) had nine kills for the Lady Reds.  Dembkowski and Madeja each had 11 kills in the win over St. Benedict, with setter Drewann Pancratz (Sr., Schaumburg, Ill.) averaging 12.0 assists per set.  In the win over Hope, Dembkowski collected 18 kills and hit .447, while Madeja had 13 kills with a .312 attack percentage.  Pancratz averaged 13.0 assists per set against the Flying Dutch. 

Carthage plays host to CCIW-opponent North Central College (14-11, 3-2 CCIW) on Tuesday, Oct. 18 in a 7 p.m. match at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
