The Carthage College women's swimming team (5-0 dual-meet record), ranked 11th in the Dec. 15 CollegeSwimming.com/College Swimming Coaches Association of America NCAA Division III poll, played host to the Carthage Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 8 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage defeated Lewis University, 166-93 and won over North Central College, 205-52.
Carthage's
Amanda Croix (Sr., Bradley, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) and Michelle Pelka (Sr., Elgin, Ill./Elgin Academy) each
won three events. Croix took first place in the 50 freestyle (23.91), the 100 freestyle (53.61) and the 200 freestyle (1:55.60), while Pelka won the 100 butterfly (1:00.34), the 200 butterfly (2:11.64) and the 200 individual medley (2:14.94).
Ember McCoy (Fr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) won both the 500 freestyle (5:21.56) and the 1,000 freestyle (11:00.57), while finishing fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:01.83). Kayla Orendorf (Fr., Bloomington, Ill./Normal-West Community) won the 100 backstroke (1:02.54) and finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:18.53).
Jensena Paul (Jr., Portage, Wis.) was second in the 100 backstroke (1:02.99) and third in the 200 backstroke (2:24.11). Natalia Bialecka (Fr., Des Plaines, Ill./Park Ridge-Maine East) was third in both the 50 freestyle (25.72) and the 100 freestyle (56.54), and Amy Mueller (Sr., Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) finished third in both the 100 breaststroke (1:12.41) and the 200 breaststroke (2:41.27). Susan Peinsipp (Fr., Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) was third in both the 100 butterfly (1:02.80) and the 200 individual medley (2:19.59). Carthage also picked up wins from its 200 freestyle relay team of
Emily Voss (So., Downers Grove, Ill./South), Bialecka,
Sammy Jo Mahler (Sr., Des Plaines, Ill./Maine East, 1:41.97) and Orendorf, along with its 400 medley relay team of Orendorf, Mueller, Pelka and Croix (4:05.66).
The Lady Reds travel to Milwaukee, Wis., on Sunday, Jan. 16 to take on Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a 1 p.m. dual meet at the
Klotsche Center Natatorium.
