Lady Reds Play Host to Wisconsin Private College Championship on Saturday

The Carthage College women's swimming team (5-2 dual-meet record), ranked 13th in the Jan. 12 CollegeSwimming.com/College Swimming Coaches Association of America NCAA Division III poll, lost to CCIW-opponent and No. 22 Wheaton College (Ill.), 138-124, on Saturday, Jan. 22 at Wheaton's Chrouser Fitness Center Natatorium in Wheaton, Ill.
 
Carthage's Amanda Croix (Sr., Bradley, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) and Michelle Pelka (Sr., Elgin, Ill./Elgin Academy) each won three events. Croix took first place in the 50 freestyle (24.05), the 100 freestyle (53.79) and the 200 freestyle (1:56.86), while Pelka won the 100 butterfly (59.55), the 200 butterfly (2:10.47) and the 200 individual medley (2:14.40). 
 
Natalia Bialecka (Fr., Des Plaines, Ill./Park Ridge-Maine East) took second place in the 100 freestyle (55.84) and third in both the 50 freestyle (25.49) and the 200 freestyle (2:01.39). Kayla Orendorf (Fr., Bloomington, Ill./Normal-West Community) finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:14.40) and third in the 100 backstroke (1:02.68). Ember McCoy (Fr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) was second in the 500 freestyle (5:22.989) and third in the 1,000 freestyle (10:54.88). Susan Peinsipp (Fr., Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) was second in the 100 butterfly (1:02.14) and third in the 200 individual medley (2:18.35). Jensena Paul (Jr., Portage, Wis.) was second in the 100 backstroke (1:02.50). 

Maggie Knowles (So., Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.75), as did Sammy Jo Mahler (Sr., Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) in the 100 freestyle (56.27). The Lady Reds also picked up a win from their 400 freestyle relay team of Bialecka, Orendorf, Pelka and Croix (3:38.27). 

Carthage plays host to Wisconsin Private College Swimming Championship on Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis., beginning at Noon.
