The Carthage College men's Indoor track and field team (8-1) opened its season on Saturday, Jan. 15 by finishing second at the Carthage “Private College Invitational” at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis.
North Central College won the 10-team event with 196 points, followed by Carthage second at 97, Olivet Nazarene University third at 85, Ripon College fourth at 48.50, Concordia University (Wis.) fifth at 45.50, the Milwaukee School of Engineering sixth at 41.50, Concordia University (Chicago) seventh at 33.50, Carroll University and Wisconsin-Parkside tied for eighth at 26 each and North Park University 10th with 21 points.
Carthage's Prentis Wilbourn (Sr., Racine, Wis./Case) took first place in the triple jump (45-10 ¾). Marshall Stewart (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) was second in the 800-meter run (2:01.13), as was Reggie Miller (Fr., Downers Grove, Ill./South) in the long jump (21-8 ¾) and Greg Raimondi (Jr., Harwood Heights, Ill./Norwood-Ridgewood) in the weight throw (55-7 ¾). Cale Brown (Fr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) took third place in the triple jump (43-9 ½), as did Brad Fortney (Sr., Antioch, Ill./Community) in the shot put (48-6 ¼) and Eric Schmidt in the weight throw (52-5 ½).
The Red Men travel to Naperville, Ill., on Friday, Jan. 21 for the North Central College “Cardinal Opener” at the Al B. Carius Track, beginning at 5 p.m.
