The Carthage College men's track and field team (31-10 outdoor record) finished second at the Saturday, May 1 Wisconsin Private College Track and Field Championship at Carroll University's Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wis. Carroll (Wis.) won the nine-team event with 168 points, followed by Carthage second at 143, Ripon College third at 127, St. Norbert College fourth at 102, the Milwaukee School of Engineering fifth at 81, Concordia University (Wis.) sixth at 57, Beloit College seventh at 55, Edgewood College eighth at 27 and Wisconsin Lutheran College ninth with nine points.

Carthage's Prentis Wilbourn (Jr., Racine, Wis./Case), the May 4 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin "Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week," finished first in the triple jump (Carthage-record and meet-record 48-2 ¾, ranked eighth nationally) and second in the long jump (22-6 ½). 

Josh Brennan (Jr., Geneva, Ill.) won the hammer throw (183-5) and finished third in the shot put (46-1 ½). Buzzy Brown (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) finished first in the long jump (meet-record and NCAA-provisional 23-10 ¾, ranked fourth nationally), as did Greg Raimondi (So., Harwood Heights, Ill./Norwood-Ridgewood) in the discus (145-5). Brad Fortney (Jr. Antioch, Ill.) finished second in both the discus (143-9) and shot put (48-9). Mike Oratowski (So., Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn-Glenbard South) finished second in the 110-meter high hurdles (14.99), as did Jake Mahaffey (Fr., Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) in the 1,500-meter run (4:06.55), Derek Hall (So., Ingleside, Ill./Fox Lake-Grant Community) in the 800-meter run (1:58.24), Ross Bunchek (Jr., Valparaiso, Ind.) in the hammer throw (179-0). Chas Walton (Sr., Glendale, Wis./Milwaukee-Nicolet) took third place in the pole vault (13-11 ¼). Carthage travels to Wheaton, Ill, on Friday-Saturday, May 7-8 for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Wheaton College's McCully Stadium.
