Buzzy Brown, Josh Brennan and Ashura Jenkins Earn All-America Honors at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship

Red Men Tie for 36th Place, Lady Reds Tie for 67th

The Carthage College men's track and field team tied for 36th place at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship. This year's championship took place on Thursday-Saturday, May 27-29 at Baldwin-Wallace College's Finnie Stadium in Berea, Ohio. 

Carthage sent four individuals and one relay team to the event. The men's contingent, totaling seven people, was the largest group of Red Men to ever qualify for the national event. 

Buzzy Brown (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) took third place in the long jump (23-7 1/2), and Josh Brennan (Jr., Geneva, Ill.) took seventh place in the hammer throw (187-1), and both earned NCAA Division III All-American honors. 

Ross Bunchek (Jr., Valparaiso, Ind.) qualified in the hammer throw but did not reach the finals, nor did Prentis Wilbourn in the triple jump or the Red Men's 1,600-meter relay team of Marshall Stewart (So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), Klayton Reed (So., Bluffton, Ind./Ossian-Norwell), Derek Hall (So., Ingleside, Ill./Fox Lake-Grant Community) and Brown. 

CCIW-member North Central College won its fifth national title and its first since 1998 with 52 points, 16 points ahead of second-place Salisbury University at 36. CCIW-member Augustana College was tied for 36th place with Carthage and six other teams, and conference-member North Park University tied for 53rd place.

The Carthage women's team tied for 67th place. Carthage sent three individuals to the event. Ashura Jenkins (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Christian) finished eighth in the 200-meter dash (24.81) and earned NCAA Division III All-America honors. Jenkins also qualified in the 100-meter dash but did not reach the finals. Christine Nelson (So., Rock City, Ill./Dakota) finished 16th in the heptathlon (4,130 points). Mindy Harrington (Jr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) qualified in the shot put but did not reach the finals. 

CCIW-member Illinois Wesleyan University won its second national title in three years with 54 points, one point ahead of second-place Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 53. Conference-member North Central College finished 29th, and CCIW-member Millikin University tied for 49th place.
