The Carthage College men's tennis team (8-5, 2-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) shut out CCIW-opponent Illinois Wesleyan University (8-2, 0-1 CCIW). 9-0, on Thursday, April 8 in an indoor match at the Eastside Tennis & Fitness Club in Kenosha, Wis.
Carthage's Sammy Ramoni (Sr., Honiara, Solomon Islands, 17-4) defeated Illinois Wesleyan's Brian Piotrowski, 7-5, 6-4, at number-one singles, and Jack Schiro (Sr., Shorewood, Wis., 9-3) won over Tom Deschler, 7-6(5), 5-7, 10-7, at number-two singles. Jeffery Lotz Jr. (Fr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 13-7) was a winner at number-three singles, as was J.T. Delk (Sr., Wheaton, Ill./North, 9-7) at number-four singles, Matt Whiteside (So., Sacramento, Calif., Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 11-5) at number-five singles and Alex McLean (So., Belleville, Ill./West, 8-6) at number-six singles. Carthage's number-one doubles team of Ramoni and Lotz (10-4) defeated the Titans, as did the Red Men's number-two team of Delk and Whiteside, 7-4) and the number-three tandem of Andy Schwenke (Sr., Mukwonago, Wis.) and Chris Vargo (Fr., Elmhurst, Ill./York, 5-2).
On Sunday, April 11, the Red Men travel to Lake Forest, Ill., for a double-dual match at Lake Forest College. Carthage takes on No. 17 the University of Chicago (10-5 prior to playing Lake Forest) at 12:30 p.m. and the host-Foresters (13-3) at 3:30 p.m.
