Carthage Men's Tennis Defeats UW-La Crosse and Elmhurst on April 24

Red Men Play Host to Wartburg College on Tuesday

The Carthage College men's tennis team (13-7, 5-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) won a pair of indoor matches on Saturday, April 24 at the Eastside Tennis & Fitness Club in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage defeated Wisconsin-La Crosse (18-6), 8-1, before blanking CCIW-opponent Elmhurst College (4-9, 0-4 CCIW) by a 9-0 margin. 

Carthage's Jack Schiro (Sr., Shorewood, Wis., 14-4) defeated Wisconsin-La Crosse's Nick Piotrowski, 6-1, 6-0, at number one singles and won over the Bluejays' David Devaney, 6-0, 6-2. Sammy Ramoni (Sr., Honiara, Solomon Islands, 21-7) defeated the Eagles' Joey Van Lieshout, 7-5, 6-1, at number-two singles before winning over Dave Douglass from Elmhurst, 6-1, 6-0. Jeffery Lotz Jr. (Fr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 17-10) won both of his number-three singles matches, as did Matt Whiteside (So., Sacramento, Calif., Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 17-6) at number-four singles, J.T. Delk (Sr., Wheaton, Ill./North, 15-8) at number-five singles and Alex McLean (So., Belleville, Ill./West, 12-9) at number-six singles. 

Carthage's number-one doubles team of Ramoni and Lotz (11-6) defeated both UW-La Crosse and Elmhurst. The Red Men's number-two team of Schiro and Schwenke (6-8) lost to the Eagles but won over the Bluejays, while Carthage's number-three team of Delk and Whiteside (11-6) won both of their contests. Carthage plays host to Wartburg College on Tuesday, April 27 in a 4 p.m. match at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
