The Carthage College men's track and field team (24-9 outdoor record) finished sixth at the Friday-Saturday, April 16-17 Augustana College (Ill.) “Meet of Champions” at Ericson Field in Rock Island, Ill. The host-Vikings won the 11-team event with 248.50 points, followed by Wisconsin-Oshkosh second at 166.50, Wisconsin-Whitewater third at 118, Wisconsin-Stevens Point fourth at 110, Monmouth College fifth at 106, Carthage sixth at 84, Wisconsin-Platteville seventh at 63, St. Ambrose University eighth at 47, Loras College ninth at 32, the University of Dubuque 10th at 23 and Luther College 11th with 21 points.

Carthage's Josh Brennan (Jr., Geneva, Ill.) won the hammer throw for the third-straight week (NCAA-automatic and Carthage-record 187-6). Buzzy Brown (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) won the long jump (NCAA-provisional 23-1 ¼) and took fourth place in the 200-meter dash (22.00). Prentis Wilbourn (Jr., Racine, Wis./Case) finished second in the triple jump (NCAA-provisional 46-9 ½). Ross Bunchek (Jr., Valparaiso, Ind.) was third in the hammer throw (NCAA-provisional 186-0). Mike Oratowski (So., Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn-Glenbard South) finished fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.49), as did Tylor Lewis (Sr., Waterford, Wis./Union) in the 800-meter run (Carthage-record 1:53.38). 

Carthage will send a partial squad to the Drake University Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday-Saturday, April 23-24. Buzzy Brown (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) has been invited to participate in the event in the long jump. Brown is Carthage's first-ever individual invitee to the prestigious national event. He had a season-best 23-1 1/4 effort at the April 16-17 Augustana College (Ill.) “Meet of Champions.” Brown is a two-time NCAA qualifier in the outdoor long jump and has won the event the last two years at the College Conference of Illinois Wisconsin Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
