The Carthage College men's track and field team (19-4 outdoor record), ranked fifth in the April 6 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Midwest Region poll, finished fourth at the Saturday, April 10 for the Chicagoland Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the University of Chicago's Amos Alonzo Stagg Field.
North Central College won the 21-team event with 168 points, followed by Chicago second at 123.50, Illinois College third at 106, Carthage fourth at 59, Wheaton College (Ill.) fifth at 55, Lewis University and Olivet Nazarene University tied for sixth at 53 each, the College of DuPage eighth at 33.50, Aurora University ninth at 26, Harper College 10th at 22, Chicago State University 11th at 20, DePaul University 12th at 19, Trinity Christian College 13th at 18, Concordia University (Chicago) 14th at 16, Loyola University (Ill.), North Park University and Oakton Community College tied for 15th at 15 each, the University of St. Francis (Ill.) 18th at 14, Benedictine University (Ill.) 19th at 12, Calumet College of St. Joseph 20th with nine points and Elmhurst College 21st with two points.
Carthage's Josh Brennan (Jr., Geneva, Ill.) won the hammer throw for the second-straight week (185-5). Aaron Carr (Fr., Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) finished second in the discus (151-4), as did Ross Bunchek (Jr., Valparaiso, Ind.) in the hammer throw (181-6). Greg Raimondi (So., Harwood Heights, Ill./Norridge-Ridgewood) finished third in the discus (145-7), as did Mike Oratowski (So., Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn-Glenbard South) in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.42). The Red Men also picked up a win from their 1,600-meter relay team. Carthage travels to Rock Island, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, April 16-17 for the Augustana College (Ill.) “Meet of Champions” at Ericson Field, beginning at Noon each day.
