The Carthage College women's tennis team (9-7, 5-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) was edged by St. Mary's College (Ind., 4-1), 5-4, on Monday, March 8 at Shadow Bay Park in Orlando, Fla.
Gina Klein (Sr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South, 11-10) lost her number-one singles match to the Belles' Jillian Hurley, Hurley winning, 6-1, 6-4. Hollis McPeek (So., Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 15-6) won her number-two singles contest over Camille Gebert, 0-6, 6-0, 6-0. Kristina Naidicz (So., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper/UW-Oshkosh, 11-8) lost at number-three singles. Ashley Morgan (Sr., Afton, Minn./Stillwater Area, 12-6) was a winner at number-four singles, as was Amanda Bizub (So., Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead, 7-4) at number-five singles. Alex Maniscalo (Jr., Lemont, Ill., 0-6) lost at number-six singles.
Carthage's number-one doubles team of Klein and McPeek (15-6) was a winner, but the Lady Reds' number-two team of Naidicz and Morgan (2-3) and the number-three tandem of Kaitlyn Farrell (Jr., Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township) and Amanda Bizub (So., Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead, 0-4) both lost. Carthage plays King's College (Pa.) on Tuesday, March 9 at 11:30 a.m., EST.
