The Carthage College track and field teams qualified three men and three women for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship. DePauw University was the host school for the championship at the DePauw Indoor Tennis and Track Center in Greencastle, Ind.
The Red Men's Buzzy Brown (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) finished sixth in the long jump (22-9 ¼), and Josh Brennan (Jr., Geneva, Ill.) finished eighth in the weight throw (59-9 ¾). Both Brown and Brennan were named NCAA Division III All-America. Ross Bunchek (Jr., Valparaiso, Ind.) qualified in the weight throw but did not reach the finals. Carthage tied for 43rd place in the men's championship, which CCIW-member North Central College won with 52.3 points over second-place Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 34 points.
The Lady Reds' Ahvia Greene (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) finished seventh in the weight throw (55-7 ¼) and earned NCAA Division III All-America honors. Sarah Thompson (So., Byron, Ill.) finished 17th in the pentathlon (2,943 points). Mindy Harrington (Jr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) qualified in the weight throw but did not reach the finals. Carthage tied for 55th place in the women's championship, which Wartburg College won with 33 points, four points ahead of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with 29 points.
