Carthage Men's Volleyball Sweeps Mount St. Joseph and Fontbonne on March 27

No. 12 Play Their Regular-Season Finale at Clarke College on Wednesday

The Carthage College men's volleyball team (19-9, 5-1 Midwest-III Volleyball Conference), ranked 12th in the March 23 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, traveled to Milwaukee on Saturday, March 27 for the Midwest-III Conference Crossover Tournament II at the Milwaukee School of Engineering's Kern Center. The Red Men swept the College of Mount St. Joseph (0-18, 0-5 M-III) and Fontbonne University (2-11, 2-4 M-III) by identical 3-0 scores. Carthage's winning set scores over Mount St, Joseph were 30-8, 30-10 and 30-7, and its winning scores over Fontbonne were 30-19, 30-17 and 30-20.  Carthage finished the regular season in a first-place tie with MSOE, but the Raiders won the conference title on a tie-breaker.

Carthage's Eric Ball (Sr., Naperville, Ill./North) had nine kills and hit .562, along with four block assists. in the Red Men's 3-0 win over Mount St. Joseph, while Chris Falknor (Fr., Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) had six kills and hit .500. Tyler Frings (So., Hubertus, Wis./Milwaukee-Pius XI) collected 13 kills and hit .550 versus Fontbonne. Frings also had nine blocks (1 solo, 8 assisted). Tim Walker (Jr., Milwaukee, Wis./Marquette University H.S.) had 10 kills and hit .400 against the Rams, while Eric Ball collected 10 kills with five block assists. Carthage travels to Dubuque, Iowa, on Wednesday, March 31 to play Clarke College in a 7 p.m. match at the Kehl Center. The Clarke contest will be the regular-season finale for the Red Men.
