The Carthage College baseball team (3-3, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 10th in the March 9 “D3baseball.com” poll, lost to Ohio Wesleyan University (3-4), 7-1, on Thursday, March 11 at North County Regional Park in North Port, Fla.
Pitcher Danny Dahm (Jr., Morton Grove, Ill./Skokie-Niles West, 0-1) started the game and was tagged with five runs in the third inning on one hit. The Battling Bishops scored four times without the benefit of a hit. Carthage pulled its infield in, and a chopper over the head of shortstop Zach Kozlowski scored the fifth run. Relief pitcher Brett McQuade (Jr., St. Charles, Ill./East) entered the game in the fifth and went the rest of the way, allowing just two runs in the ninth.
“It was more of the same,” said a disappointed coach
Augie Schmidt IV. “More walks, more hit batters and more missed opportunities at the plate. It's not easy to watch. We're finding out who can do what, but we have to get better.”
The Red Men were scheduled to play a split doubleheader on Friday, March 12 against Muskingum University and No. 2 the College of Wooster, both games were rained out. The trip concludes on Saturday, March 13 with a 3 p.m., EST doubleheader versus No. 4 Kean University (6-1) at North County Regional Park. Mario Perez and Scott Danly are the scheduled pitchers.
