The Carthage College men's track and field team (39-3), ranked ninth in the Feb. 3 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, finished second at the Friday-Saturday, Feb. 5-6 Illinois Wesleyan University “Bob Keck Invitational” at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Ill. Washington University (Mo.) won the 17-team event with 76 points, followed by Carthage second at 69.50, Monmouth College third at 48, Illinois State University fourth at 30, Illinois-Springfield fifth at 26.50, Loyola University (Ill.) sixth at 25, Rhodes College and the College of DuPage tied for seventh at 23 each, Illinois Wesleyan ninth at 19, Wheaton College (Ill.) 10th at 18, Aurora University 11th at 15, Millikin University 12th at 14, Trinity University 13th at 11, North Central College 14th with seven points, Benedictine University (Ill.) and Saint Louis University tied for 15th with four points each and Beloit College 17th with two points.

Carthage's Buzzy Brown (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) won the 200-meter dash (22.70) and finished second in the long jump (23-3 ½). Marshall Stewart (So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) finished second in the 400-meter dash (50.23), as did Jake Mahaffey (Fr., Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) in the 3,000-meter run (8:48.36) and Prentis Wilbourn (Jr., Racine, Wis./Case) in the triple jump (46-0 ¾) . Ross Bunchek (Jr., Valparaiso, Ind.) finished third in the weight throw (58-9 ½), and Mike Oratowski (So., Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn-Glenbard South) took fourth place in the 55-meter high hurdles (7.89). The Red Men travel to Chicago on Saturday, Feb. 13 for the Chicagoland Indoor Track and Field Championship at the University of Chicago's Crown Field House, beginning at 11 a.m.
