The Carthage College men's track and field team (53-9), ranked 24th in the Feb. 24 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, finished third at the Friday-Saturday, Feb. 26-27 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Indoor Track and Field Championship at North Central College's Al B. Carious Track in Naperville, Ill.
The host-Cardinals won their 10th CCIW title and 10th in a row with 236.50 points, followed by Augustana College (Ill.) second at 151.50, Carthage third at 131.50, Illinois Wesleyan University fourth at 52.50, Wheaton College (Ill.) fifth at 51, Millikin University sixth at 25, Elmhurst College seventh at 10 and North Park University eighth with four points.
Carthage's Buzzy Brown (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), the "track athlete of the meet," won the long jump (22-9) for the third-straight year, while finishing second in the 200-meter dash (22.47). Mike Oratowski (So., Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn-Glenbard South) won the 55-meter high hurdles (7.81). Prentis Wilbourne (Jr., Racine, Wis./Case) finished second in both the long jump (22-5 1/4) and the triple jump (45-11 ¼). Josh Brennan (Jr., Geneva, Ill.) was second in the weight throw (59-4), as was Jarrayl Johnson (Jr., Flossmoor, Ill./South Holland-Thornwood) in the shot put (49-3).
Tharon Davis Jr. (Fr., Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) finished third in the triple jump (45-2 ½), as did Marshall Stewart (So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) in the 400-meter dash (49.99) and Klayton Reed (So., Bluffton, Ind./Ossian-Norwell) in the 800-meter run (1:54.81). The Red Men also picked up a win from their 1,600-meter relay team of Derek Hall (So., Ingleside, Ill./Fox Lake-Grant Community), Brown, Reed and Stewart.
