The Carthage College men's volleyball team (11-5, 3-0 Midwest-III Volleyball Conference), ranked sixth in the Feb. 23 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, defeated Clarke College (12-3), 3-1, on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. The Red Men's winning set scores over the Crusaders were 30-23, 31-33, 36-34 and 30-26. Clarke was ranked third in the Feb. 22 AVCA NAIA poll.
Carthage's Randy Hansen (So., Oak Lawn, Ill.) had a match-high 23 kills and hit. 262. Tim Walker (Jr., Milwaukee, Wis./Marquette University High School) collected 13 kills and hit .357, while Tom O'Connell (Jr., Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) also had 13 kills. O'Connell and Tyler Frings (So., Hubertus, Wis./Milwaukee-Pius XI) each had 12 blocks (2 solo, 10 assisted each), which broke a school record of nine blocks in four sets first set by Chris Allen versus St. Ambrose University on Feb. 24, 2007 and subsequently matched by Tim Walker in two different 2008 matches.
On Sunday, Feb. 28, the Red Men entertain Quincy University in a 1 p.m. contest, also at Tarble Arena.
