Box Score

The Carthage College men's soccer team (8-6-1, 2-2-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) defeated CCIW-opponent Millikin University (4-8-1, 0-3-1 CCIW), 4-1, on Sunday, Oct. 17 at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.

The Red Men took a 2-0 lead in the first half behind goals by Tyler Peterson (Sr., New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower), assisted by Bill Hamilton, at 23:00 and Mark Goldsberry (Sr., Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township), assisted by both Kevin Hilgart and Zak Khoshbin, at 43:07. The Big Blue made it a 2-1 contest at 58:00 second period on a goal by Kevin Price. Carthage's Marko Markovic (Jr., Niles, Ill./Park Ridge-Maine East) answered with two late goals, the first at 63:30, unassisted, and the other coming at 82:00, assisted by Rafal Zalewski.

"It's interesting,” notes Carthage coach Steve Domin, “that the more-competitive the teams we face, the better we play.  Today, however, was not one of those days. Although I felt we were stronger in every facet of the game, this one was closer than the score reflected, or needed to be. Anytime you can get a victory in the hyper-competitive CCIW, it's a good day.  It's been a dog fight so far, and I would anticipate much more of the same down the stretch. A goal here or there, and we would be in the thick of things, nationally.”

Carthage travels to Davenport, Iowa, on Wednesday, Oct. 20 to play non-conference opponent St. Ambrose University in a 3 p.m. game at the Davenport Soccer Complex.
