The Carthage College men's soccer team (7-6-1, 1-2-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) lost to CCIW-opponent Wheaton College (Ill., 5-6-3, 3-0-0 CCIW), 2-1, on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.
The Thunder took a 1-0 lead in the first period on an unassisted goal by Jordan Golz at 13:00. The Red Men tied the contest, 1-1, at 47:25 second period on a goal by Aleks Urosevic (Jr., Skokie, Ill./Wilmette-Loyola Academy), assisted by Greg Pignataro. Wheaton's Stephen Mesko scored the game-winning goal, assisted by Chad Musgraves, at 66:12. The shots were nearly even, with the Thunder holding a 13-12 edge over the Red Men.
“It was a little unfortunate tonight,” said Carthage coach
Steve Domin, “as I think we just ran out of time. We sacrificed some in the way we normally play in order to create the chances we did. Both teams were dangerous all night, but we need to do a better job of taking advantage of our opportunities.” On Sunday, Oct. 17, the Red Men entertain conference-opponent Millikin University (4-7-1, 0-2-1 CCIW) in a 3:30 p.m. contest, also at Art Keller Field.
