The Carthage College men's track and field team (25-2), ranked sixth in the Jan. 27 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, won the Saturday, Jan. 30 Carthage “Tadd Metzger Invitational” at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage won the 15-team event with 144 points, followed by the Milwaukee School of Engineering second at 118, the Greater Milwaukee Track Club third at 66, Benedictine University (Ill.) fourth at 63, Rockford College fifth at 45, Concordia University (Chicago) sixth at 43, Trinity Christian College and the Wisconsin Track Club tied for seventh at 35 each, the College of DuPage ninth at 33, Oakton Community College 10th at 25, Judson University 11th at 22, Wisconsin Lutheran College 12th at 17, the Chicago Track Club 13th at 12, Wisconsin Runner 14th at 10 and Athletics Best 15th with one point.
Carthage's Josh Brennan (Jr., Geneva, Ill.) won the weight throw (Carthage-record 57-3) and finished second in the shot put (46-4). The Red Men also picked up wins from Ryan Langenecker (Fr., Hartford, Wis./Union) in the 55-meter dash (6.60), Prentis Wilbourn (Jr., Racine, Wis./Case) in the triple jump (44-6 ¾) and Jarrayl Johnson (Jr., Flossmoor, Ill./South Holland-Thornwood) in the shot put (47-6 ½).
Klayton Reed (So., Bluffton, Ind./Ossian-Norwell) finished second in the 600-meter run (1:24.78), as did Mike Oratowski (So., Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn-Glenbard South) in the 55-meter high hurdles (7.94), John Seigler (Fr., Bolingbrook, Ill.) in the high jump (6-1 ½), Chas Walton (Sr., Glendale, Wis./Milwaukee-Nicolet) in the pole vault (12-6) and Ross Bunchek (Jr., Valparaiso, Ind.) in the weight throw (55-9). The Red Men travel to Bloomington, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 5-6 for the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational at the Shirk Center (3 p.m./11 a.m.).
