The Carthage College men's track and field team (18-2), ranked 20th in the Jan. 21 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, finished second at the Saturday, Jan. 23 Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational at Kachel Fieldhouse in Whitewater, Wis. The host-Warhawks won the nine-team event with 262 points, followed by Carthage second at 103, Carroll University third at 92, St. Mary's University (Minn.) fourth at 44, Loras College fifth at 41, Aurora University sixth at 39, Beloit College seventh at 23, Judson University eighth at 14 and North Park University ninth with six points.
Carthage collected wins from Buzzy Brown (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) in the 400-meter dash (50.01), Klayton Reed (So., Bluffton, Ind./Ossian-Norwell) in the 800-meter run (1:56.39) and Jake Mahaffey (Fr., Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) in the 5,000-meter run (15:38.72). Marshall Stewart (So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) finished second in the 400-meter dash (50.63), as did Justin Sebens (Jr., Seymour, Ill..Mahomet-Seymour) in the 5,000-meter run (16:08.15) and Mike Oratowski (So., Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn-Glenbard South) in the 55-meter high hurdles (7.85). The Red Men play host to the “Tadd Metzger Invitational” on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation in Kenosha, Wis., beginning at 10:30 a.m.
