The Carthage College men's track and field team (11-1) played host to and finished second at the Friday-Saturday, Jan. 15-16 Private College Invitational at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis. North Central College won the 11-team event with 254.16 points, followed by Carthage second at 136.83, Olivet Nazarene University third at 59, Ripon College fourth at 53.50, Concordia University (Wis.) fifth at 51, the Milwaukee School of Engineering sixth at 48, Carroll University seventh at 29, Concordia University (Chicago) eighth at 21.50, North Park University ninth at 17, Oakton College 10th at 12 and Rockford College 11th with three points.
 
Carthage's Buzzy Brown (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) won the long jump (NCAA-automatic and Carthage-record 23-7 3/4).  Going back to last season, Brown has now won the long jump in eight-of-11 regular-season indoor events. Brown also took second place in the 200-meter dash (22.98). 

Prentis Wilbourne (Jr., Racine, Wis./Case) took first place in the triple jump (46-1 ½) and third in the long jump (21-8 3/4). Derek Hall (So., Ingleside, Ill./Fox Lake Grant Community) finished first in the 400-meter dash (53.02), as did Ross Bunchek (Jr., Valparaiso, Ind.) in the weight throw (NCAA-provisional and school-record 56-5 ¼). John Seigler Fr., Bolingbrook, Ill.) was second in the high jump (6-1 ½), as was Josh Brennan (Jr., Geneva, Ill.) in the weight throw (NCAA-provisional 55-4 ¾). Klayton Reed (So., Bluffton, Ind./Ossian-Norwell) finished third in the 400-meter dash (53.08), as did Marshall Stewart (So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) in the 800-meter run (2:02.83), Mike Oratowski (So., Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn-Glenbard South) in the 55-meter high hurdles (8.04) and Tharon Davis Jr., (Fr., Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) in the triple jump (43-7).

 

Carthage travels to Whitewater, Wis., on Saturday, Jan. 23 for the Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational at Kachel Fieldhouse, beginning at 10 a.m.
