Carthage Men's Volleyball Falls to NCAA Division I Ball State, 3-1, on Jan. 16

The Carthage College men's volleyball team (1-2), ranked ninth in the pre-season American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, lost to NCAA Division I Ball State University (1-1), 3-1, on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. Ball State defeated Carthage, 22-30, 30-24, 31-29 and 30-26. Carthage's Tom O'Connell (Jr., Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) had 20 kills for the Red Men, while Randy Hansen (So., Oak Lawn Ill.) collected 18 kills and hit .306. J.P Gasparovic led the Cardinals with 16 kills and hit .500, while Anders Nelson had 13 kills and hit. 550.

Carthage travels to Indiana on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 22-23 for two matches. On Friday, Jan. 22, the Red Men play a return match with Ball State University at Worthen Arena in Muncie, Ind., beginning at 7 p.m., EST. On Saturday, Jan. 23, Carthage faces Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne in a 7 p.m., EST match at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
