The Carthage College men's track and field team (3-0) opened its indoor season by winning the Jan. 9 Carthage Opener/Alumni Meet at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage won the eight-team event with 123 points, followed by Ashford University second at 104, the Milwaukee School of Engineering third at 84, the Greater Milwaukee Track Club fourth at 81, the Carthage alumni fifth at 74, Concordia University (Wis.) sixth at 44, Wisconsin Runner seventh with six points and Athletics Best eighth with two points. 

Carthage's Buzzy Brown (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) won the long jump (NCAA-provisional 23-6 ¼). Going back to last season, Brown has now won the long jump in seven-of-10 regular-season indoor events. Ross Bunchek (Jr., Valparaiso, Ind.) won the weight throw (NCAA-provisional 55-7 ¾). Mike Oratowski (So., Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn-Glenbard South) finished second in the 55-meter high hurdles (8.01), as did Josh Brennan (Jr., Geneva, Ill.) in the weight throw (NCAA-provisional 55-2 ¼).  Carthage plays host to the Private College Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 15-16, also at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center (3 p.m./10:30 a.m.).
