Mike Muehling

Mike Muehling is in his fourth season as a Carthage College assistant football coach in 2022-23. He is currently the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach after serving as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach in 2019-20.

Muehling arrived at Carthage after eight seasons (2011-18) as head football coach at Hudson Valley Community College. In addition to leading the Hudson Valley football program, Muehling was also the athletic academic coordinator. He oversaw all facets of the Hudson Valley football program including travel, recruiting, academic progress, budgets, and each position on the field. Muehling led the Vikings to a program-record eight wins in 2014, which led to their third bowl game in school history. This helped Muehling earn 2014 Mountain Valley Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.

Prior to Hudson Valley, Muehling spent two seasons with NCAA Division I Syracuse University (2009-2010) as quality control coach for the defense. His main responsibilities were defensive self-scout, statistical analysis, and distribution of defensive playbooks and scouting reports. His stop at Syracuse occurred after a summer with the Arena Football League's Green Bay Blizzard in 2009, where he oversaw linebackers, special teams, and fullbacks.

Muehling entered the coaching ranks at Indiana University, where he spent three seasons as the defensive graduate assistant (2006-2008), and one as the offensive quality control coach (2005).

Muehling graduated from Lindenwood University in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology. He received his master's degree, also in kinesiology, from Indiana in 2008. He and wife, Virginia, have two children, Kywin and Theodora.
