Atkins is in his first year with Carthage College coaching the Wide Receivers, joining the staff during the summer of 2020. Prior to joining Carthage, he spent the 2019 season at the University of San Diego as an Assistant Linebackers Coach. While at San Diego, he helped coach the conference's top scoring defense, which ranked third in interceptions and 10th in turnovers nationally.

Atkins spent two years at The College of Wooster where he served as the defensive line coach. In 2018, the defensive line ranked 30th nationally in team sacks with 32 on the year. He mentored three all-conference players, two at the defensive line and one as a punt return specialist who’s punt return unit was ranked 18th nationally in punt return yards per game (14.7).

Prior to coaching at Wooster, Atkins was at La Costa Canyon High School in Carlsbad, Calif., where he coached the defensive line. Before La Costa Canyon High School, he spent his first year at Maranatha Christian High School in San Diego.

As a student-athlete, Atkins played collegiate football at the University of New Mexico for three seasons after transferring from San Diego Mesa College, where he was named the top student-athlete on the team. Atkins holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from New Mexico, and earned his master’s in sports science from Ohio University in 2018. He is married to the former Olivia Najjar.
