Jarvis Brown completed his seventh year in his second stint as a part-time assistant coach in 2012. Brown previously served as a part-time coach for three seasons from 2004 to 2006 after one year as a volunteer assistant coach in 2003. From 2007 to 2009, Brown was the head baseball coach at Wisconsin-Parkside.
A native of Waukegan, Ill., Brown played parts of five season in Major League Baseball, beginning with an 18-game stint with the 1991 World-Series-champion Minnesota Twins. Brown was on the post-season roster in 1991 and played in three World Series games.
He appeared in 35 games for the 1992 Twins before signing with the San Diego Padres as a minor league free agent in 1993. After appearing in 47 games for the 1993 Padres, he was claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Braves in 1994 and played in 17 games for the Braves. Brown signed with the New York Mets after 1994 season but was released in May 1995.
The Cincinnati Reds signed Brown to a minor league contract on June 12, 1995 but traded him, two days later, to the Baltimore Orioles. Brown appeared in 18 games for the Orioles before being released on June 20, 1996. His final year as a player was in 1997 for the Milwaukee Brewers’ Class AAA affiliate in Tucson, Ariz.
Brown attended St. Joseph High School in Kenosha, Wis., and played two years of baseball at Triton College before being selected in the January-phase of the 1986 MLB draft. In addition to coaching at both Carthage and Wisconsin-Parkside, Brown made coaching stops for the Minnesota organization at Class A Fort Myers (1999), Class AA New Britain (2000), the Twins’ Gulf Coast League rookie team (2001), Newark in the Atlantic League (2002), St. Paul in the Northern League (2003) and manager for New Haven in the Northeast League (2004). Brown graduated from Carthage in 2011.
