Carthage Keeps Mount St. Joseph Off the Scoreboard in Draw

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College women's soccer team battled Mount St. Joseph to a scoreless draw on Saturday evening at Art Keller Field. The Firebirds created several early scoring opportunities and controlled the opening minutes, but Mount St. Joseph goalkeeper Megan Kallmeyer kept Carthage off the scoreboard. Tatiana Valdez made seven saves for the Firebirds as neither team was able to find a game-winning goal through 90 minutes.

How it Happened
  • Carthage came out attacking early, earning four corner kicks during the opening two minutes and creating an early scoring chance when Reese Staniak's shot hit the top woodwork at 1:44.
  • Staniak tested Mount St. Joseph goalkeeper Megan Kallmeyer again in the 12th minute, forcing a save on a shot to the top left.
  • Mount St. Joseph created its first dangerous chances in the opening 20 minutes, but Tatiana Valdez made a save on Rachel Ginn in the 19th minute to keep the match scoreless.
  • Carthage continued to pressure the Lions late in the first half, with Malie Cassel forcing a save in the 34th minute before Jadynn Kramer tested Kallmeyer again less than two minutes later.
  • The Firebirds earned three more corner kicks during the final 10 minutes of the opening half, but neither team was able to break through before halftime.
