Women's Tennis Handed Setback in Rock Island

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Carthage women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Augustana (Ill.) on Sunday afternoon in a CCIW matchup.

How it Happened 

In doubles play, Anna-Maria Huebel and Colleen Larry defeated Niki Manojlovic and Kamila Dobija 6-4 in No. 1 doubles. Maripaz Ramirez and Estefania Velasco then earned a 6-4 win over Rya Arreazola and Greta Peterson in No. 2 doubles to secure the team point for the Vikings. Valentina Huesca and Jordan Miller avoided the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory over Kassidy Anderson and Analia Cedeno in No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Velasco defeated Peterson 6-4, 6-1 in No. 3 singles to give Augustana a 2-0 lead. Larry then defeated Dobija 7-5, 6-2 in No. 4 singles to extend the Vikings' advantage to 3-0. Huesca put Carthage on the board with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Anderson in No. 6 singles. Miller followed with a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) comeback victory over Cedeno in No. 5 singles to cut the deficit to 3-2. Huebel then defeated Arreazola 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 singles to clinch the match for Augustana. Ramirez closed out the match with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win over Manojlovic in No. 1 singles.
