Carthage Controls Match in Straight-Set Win Over Augustana (Ill.) on Senior Day

KENOSHA — The No. 3 Carthage College men's volleyball team secured a straight-set victory over Augustana (Ill.) Vikings on Senior Day Saturday, using a fast start and consistent offensive pressure to win 25-18, 25-18, 25-19.

How it Happened
  • Ryan Bartz sparked an early 4-2 advantage for Carthage in the opening set.
  • An attack error by Augustana (Ill.) Vikings extended the Firebirds' lead to 9-6.
  • Bartz continued his strong start, adding a kill to push the score to 12-10.
  • Following a Vikings timeout, a triple block from Ryan Monahan, Ruben Emmerich, and Ben Heise halted Augustana's momentum.
  • Heise delivered a late kill to make it 23-18 as Carthage secured the first set, 25-18.
  • Riding the momentum, the Firebirds opened the second set with a 7-2 run aided by a Vikings service error.
  • Heise added multiple kills to extend the margin to 13-7.
  • Augustana trimmed the deficit to 22-16, but Bartz closed the set with a decisive kill.
  • Carthage controlled the third set throughout, building a 16-8 lead behind kills from Monahan and Bartz, along with two aces from Bartz.
  • Ryan Kelly earned match point for the Firebirds before a brief four-point surge by the Vikings made it 24-19.
  • A service error by Augustana sealed the match for Carthage with a 25-19 final set win.


High Flyers
  • Ryan Bartz had a match-best 15 kills, followed by Ben Heise with 11. 
  • Bartz also had four aces from the service line while Ruben Emmerich tallied seven combined blocks. 
  • Heise and Ryan Morey chipped in with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
