KENOSHA — The No. 1 Carthage men's volleyball team secured a straight-set win over Dominican (Ill.), using timely runs in each set to maintain control and close out the match at home.

• The opening set remained tight early, with both teams trading points until a Stars service error and an ace from Ruben Emmerich gave Carthage a one-point edge.
• After Dominican (Ill.) briefly moved in front by one, the Firebirds responded with four consecutive points, highlighted by a Hudson Sweitzer kill.
• Kills from Ryan Bartz and Ben Heise pushed the advantage to 19-15 before a kill and an ace from Owen Hendricks secured the set for Carthage.
• In the second set, Heise opened the scoring with a kill that gave the Firebirds an early three-point cushion.
• Additional kills from Emmerich and Heise extended the lead to five as Carthage built momentum.
• Ryan Morey added a kill to make it 15-8 midway through the set.
• Hendricks later delivered a pair of kills that stretched the lead to 22-13.
• A Dominican (Ill.) attack error ended the set with Carthage claiming a 25-15 win.
• The Firebirds carried the momentum into the third set, jumping ahead 6-3 after an ace from Heise.
• After Dominican (Ill.) trimmed the margin to two, Carthage answered with six straight points to take control at 16-8.
• Kills from Hendricks and Heise pushed the lead to 21-13 before Heise finished the match with a final kill in a 25-19 third-set victory.

• Ryan Bartz had a match-best 10 kills, followed by Ben Heise and Hudson Sweitzer with nine. 
• Ryan Morey notched a team-best 37 assists while Austin Mallory had 10 digs. 
• As an offense, Carthage hit .427 (46 kills, 8 errors, 89 total attacks).
