Williams’ Clutch Shot Sends Carthage to 62-59 Win

KENOSHA — Carthage erased an early double-digit deficit and took control late Saturday, using a clutch three-pointer from AJ Williams in the final minute to secure a 62-59 victory over Millikin in conference play inside Tarble Arena.

How it Happened
  • Millikin opened the game on a 13-2 run before Carthage trimmed the deficit to single digits on a Ryan Johnson jumper at the 8:31 mark.
  • The Big Blue pushed the margin to 11 late in the half, but a jumper from AJ Williams and a free throw by Johnson cut it to 32-25 at the break.
  • Carthage continued its rally after halftime, pulling even at 40 on a jumper from Jabe Haith.
  • Johnson converted two free throws to bring the Firebirds within 48-44 with less than 10 minutes remaining.
  • Back-to-back layups from Griffin Daun and Chris Schlesinger gave Carthage a 53-49 advantage and forced a Millikin timeout with under six minutes to play.
  • Riley Brooks extended the lead to six on a jumper, though Millikin answered to close within one with 48 seconds left.
  • Williams drilled a late three-pointer to seal the 62-59 victory, and Millikin's last-second three at the horn accounted for the final margin.
