Firebirds Fall to Loras Despite Late Push

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Loras on Saturday afternoon at Art Keller Field on Senior Day.

The Firebirds battled through a physical 90-minute contest, but a first-half goal proved to be the difference as Loras held on for the shutout victory. Carthage continued to battle and created several opportunities in the second half, including a pair of shots from Emmitt Hansen in the 65th minute and a late chance from Wyatt Panczuk, but was unable to find the equalizer.

How it Happened
  • Loras applied pressure early, recording the first shot of the afternoon less than a minute into the match.
  • Carthage goalkeeper Juan Camilo Rodriguez Prada made his first save of the afternoon in the fifth minute, keeping the match scoreless.
  • Rodriguez Prada continued to keep the Firebirds within striking distance, making additional saves in the 14th and 22nd minutes.
  • Loras broke through in the 29th minute, taking a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 28:41 mark.
  • Dennis Valle recorded Carthage's first shot in the 31st minute, but the attempt went over the goal.
  • Rodriguez Prada came up with another save in the 38th minute as Carthage entered halftime trailing by just one.
  • Loras earned two corner kicks early in the second half, but Carthage's defense prevented the visitors from adding to their lead.
  • The Firebirds generated their best offensive opportunity of the afternoon in the 66th minute. Emmitt Hansen recorded two shots on the same sequence, with one stopped by the Loras goalkeeper and another cleared away by the defense.
  • Carthage continued to push forward during the final 20 minutes, looking for the equalizer.
  • Neil Mayer made another attempt toward the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went wide.
