Ahram's Career High Scoring Leads Carthage Past North Park in Tarble Arena

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage women's basketball team hosted the North Park Vikings in Tarble Arena on Wednesday evening. After a strong opening quarter for Nora Ahram, the Firebirds cruised to a 28-point victory over the Vikings to pick up their first win in conference play this season.



Aliyah Hershberger opened the game with a jump shot to put the Vikings on the board first. Carthage would respond by hitting two threes from Ahram to take the lead 6-2. The Firebirds ended the quarter hot with a 13-2 run to take the 23-10 lead into the second quarter. This run was led by Ahram, who registered eight points in the quarter. The Firebirds did not allow a point in the final two minutes of play. 

Teressa Morrissey opened the second quarter with a three pointer for the Vikings. Whitney Thompson responded right away with a three of her own to start the second quarter scoring for the Firebirds. The Firebirds pulled away with an 11-0 run, led by Malia Green's five points in the run, to extend the lead to 39-17. The first half would end with Carthage leading 41-19.

Caroline Long opened the second half for North Park with a layup. Carthage continued to control the pace of play as they would go on a 10-0 run, leading 56-25 with 3:39 to play in the third quarter. The Firebirds led 62-34 to end the quarter. 

Alyssa Orozco opened the quarter with a three-point play to extend the lead to 65-36. North Park started to heat up as they went on a 10-2 run with 4:41 to go in the game. Both teams scored 16 points in the last frame, as Carthage held on to a 28 point lead to claim the victory.

The Firebirds (7-7, 1-4 CCIW) return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 14 as the team heads to Elmhurst, Ill. for a rematch against the Elmhurst Bluejays at 7 p.m. Carthage women's basketball returns to Tarble Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 21 as the squad hosts Illinois Wesleyan at 7 p.m., which will be featured live on Marquee Sports Network.
