Firebirds Flip Early Script, Cruise Past Elmhurst

KENOSHA — On Saturday afternoon, the Carthage College men's basketball team picked up their third conference win of the season, defeating Elmhurst 80-65 at home.

How it Happened
  • Elmhurst opened the game with a 13-6 advantage before Carthage College found its rhythm, taking a two-point lead on a three-pointer from Jabe Haith at the 9:37 mark.
  • Antuan Nesbitt pushed the Firebirds in front by six with a three-pointer, and a fast-break three from AJ Williams extended the margin to nine and forced a visitor timeout.
  • Carthage carried a 42-31 lead into halftime after Griffin Daun threw down a dunk with 20 seconds remaining.
  • The momentum continued into the second half as a three-pointer from AJ Johnson made it 59-41.
  • Williams later connected from beyond the arc to keep the lead at 17 with 8:13 left.
  • Elmhurst trimmed the deficit to 12 late, but a dunk and layup from Ryan Johnson and Daun closed the door for the 80-65 win.

High Flyers
  • Riley Brooks totaled 20 points for the Firebirds, marking back-to-back 20-point performances. 
  • Griffin Daun had a double-double on the day, finishing with 13 points and leading the Firebirds in rebounds with 10. Daun also dished out a team-best six assists. 
  • Ryan Johnson added 11 points and hauled down five rebounds through 34 minutes of play. 
  • AJ Johnson totaled 10 points and six rebounds, while Chris Schlesinger had six rebounds.
