Men’s Hoops Race Out Early, Secure 75-61 Victory

KENOSHA — Carthage used a blistering start and sustained pressure to secure a 75-61 victory over the Vikings, building a commanding first-half lead and fending off a late push. The Firebirds opened the contest with a 14-2 run and never relinquished control, taking a 40-26 advantage into halftime before closing out the win on their home floor.

How it Happened
  • Carthage started the game hot by going on a 14-2 run led by Riley Brooks and AJ Johnson, both having six points, to take an early 17-6 lead with 14:16 remaining in the half. 
  • The Firebirds continued to take flight with another 18-2 run with 4:30 remaining in the half. 
  • The Vikings finished the half with an 11-3 run, but trailed the Firebirds 40-26 at halftime.
  • The Vikings opened the second half with a three-pointer. AJ Johnson followed it with a jumper for the Firebirds. 
  • Carthage continued to apply the pressure with a 10-2 run with 14:59 remaining in the second half. The home team remained on top by going on another 12-2 run, leading 71-48 with 7:00 remaining in the half. 
  • The Vikings did not back down, going on a 9-0 run, trailing 71-57 with 2:40 remaining. This would not be enough as the Firebirds come away with the victory 75-61. 


High Flyers
  • AJ Johnson led all-scorers with 22 points and seven rebounds. Johnson went six-for-10 from beyond the three-point line. 
  • Riley Brooks added 19 points, crossing the 1,000 career point mark.
  • Ryan Johnson finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists. 
  • Griffin Daun dished out seven assists and grabbed seven rebounds.
