KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage women's basketball team hosted the Illinois Wesleyan Titans in Tarble Arena on Wednesday evening. After a close opening quarter, the Titans offense pulled away from the Firebirds and came away with a 22-point victory.



Alyssa Orozco got the Firebirds on the board with a made jump shot on the opening possession. Orozco then scored again, with a follow up basket from Malia Green gave the Firebirds an early 6-2 lead. An 8-0 run lifted the Titans to a 10-6 lead with 5:45 to play in the opening quarter. A layup from Grace Cord and a three from Green flipped the score back in favor of the Firebirds 11-10. The two teams traded baskets throughout the remainder of the quarter until a 5-0 run in the final minute gave the Titans a 19-14 lead.

The two teams traded three-point plays for the first four possessions of the second quarter, bringing the score to 25-20 with 8:25 to play in the first half. A 10-2 run for the Titans over the next four and a half minutes extended the lead to 13 points. The Titans held their distance over the Firebirds for the remainder of the quarter, leading 39-27 at the half.

The Firebirds cut the deficit to 10 points by the halfway point of the third quarter, before a 9-0 run boosted the Titans ahead 55-36 with two minutes left on the clock. A three from Delaney Elsmore ended the scoring drought for the Firebirds, while a pair of Titan free throws brought the score to 57-39 in favor of the visiting squad at the end of the third quarter.

The Titans outscored the Firebirds 17-13 in the final quarter, claiming the victory 74-52.
