Firebirds Cut Deficit in Third Quarter before Titans Pull Away

KENOSHA — The Carthage College football team dropped its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) home opener on Saturday afternoon, falling 34-10 to Illinois Wesleyan at Art Keller Field.

How it Happened
  • Illinois Wesleyan struck first late in the opening quarter with a 17-yard touchdown pass for a 7-0 lead.
  • The Titans added to their advantage in the second quarter, scoring on a 15-yard pass and a 31-yard field goal to make it 17-0 at halftime.
  • The visitors connected on a 27-yard field goal to start the third quarter, but Carthage responded when Bryce Frank broke free for a 22-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 20-7. On the following possession, Mugdim Kreho drilled a 35-yard field goal, bringing the Firebirds within 20-10.
  • Illinois Wesleyan put the game out of reach in the fourth with a 35-yard rush for a touchdown and a one-yard rushing score, sealing the 34-10 final.
