Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Firebirds Shut Out the Prairie Fire on Home Turf with 1-0 Victory

KENOSHA  — The Carthage women's soccer team returned to Art Keller Field on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 1–0 victory over Knox College. A strong start and a resilient defensive effort allowed the Firebirds to improve their record to 4-4-1 on the season.

The Basics
  • Final score: Carthage 1 - Knox 0
  • Location: Kenosha, Wis.
  • Records: Carthage (4-4-1), Knox (3-3-1)

How it Happened
  • The Firebirds broke the scoreless match, wasting little time finding the net, in the 17th minute when Ashley Gorder's throw-in found Emma Amberg. Amberg skillfully worked past a defender before firing a right-footed strike from just outside the box, placing it perfectly into the low left corner, giving the Firebirds the only score they would need(1-0).
  • Knox attempted to rally in the second half with seven shots, but Carthage's defensive organization and timely goalkeeping ensured the 1–0 result held until the final whistle.
High Flyers
  • The Firebirds recorded 16 shots, with nine of them on goal.
  • Ainsley Stallworth registered three saves against 16 shots faced.
