Women's Lacrosse Defeated by Carroll in CCIW Championship Game

WAUKESHA - The Carthage women's lacrosse team traveled north to compete in the CCIW Women's Lacrosse Championship against the top-seeded Carroll (Wis.) Pioneers on Saturday afternoon. It was a tough day for the Firebirds, as a slow start on the offensive end allowed the Pioneers to build a lead and come away with the championship win over Carthage.

How it Happened

FIRST QUARTER
  • After seven minutes of scoreless play, the Pioneers found the back of the net three times in a span of 1:32 to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
  • The Pioneers tallied one more goal in the quarter (2:25), ending the period with a 4-0 advantage over the Firebirds.

SECOND QUARTER
  • The Pioneers and the Firebirds went over eight minutes into the quarter without scoring, before Carroll extended the lead to 5-0 with another goal (6:46).
  • Piper LeFevre got the Firebirds on the board with a free position goal (4:49), cutting the deficit back to four goals.
  • The Pioneers scored the final goal of the half (0:42) to take a 6-1 lead into the break.

THIRD QUARTER
  • The Pioneers shut out the Firebirds in the third quarter while adding four more goals to their total and extending the lead to 10-1.

FOURTH QUARTER
  • LeFevre tallied her second goal of the contest (7:27) to cut the deficit to 10-2.
  • The Pioneers would add two more goals before claiming the 12-2 victory.

Coach's Remarks

"This was a tough way to go out," said Head Coach Maddie Berni. "We didn't play our best game today, but I am still really proud of everything that we have accomplished as a team this season!"
