NAPERVILLE - The Carthage women's lacrosse team closed out the 2025 regular season schedule with a trip to Illinois to take on the North Central Cardinals on Saturday morning. In a very tight defensive battle, the Firebirds stood strong and came away with a big win over the Cardinals.

FIRST QUARTER

The Cardinals got the offense going first with a goal from Annelise Oster (7:52) to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
Piper LeFevre flipped the score with a pair of goals (3:11; 1:57) to give the Firebirds a 2-1 lead to end the quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

Rosie Nolan scored the first goal (10:42) of the quarter, with LeFevre quickly following with her third goal of the game (9:56) to push the Firebirds ahead 4-1.
An advantage goal from Abby MacKenzie (9:25) cut into the Cardinals deficit, bringing the score to 4-2.
Sofia Winterkorn found the back of the net (5-2) to extend the lead back to three goals for Carthage, ending the half with the Firebird up 5-2.

THIRD QUARTER

Nolan scored a free position goal (6:53) to extend the lead to 6-2.
A second goal for MacKenzie (1:01) would cut into the Carthage lead and bring the score to 6-3 heading into the fourth quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER

Bailey Koestel scored quickly (14:19), but a goal from Oster (13:35) kept the difference at three goals.
MacKenzie scored her third goal (11:08) of the contest, cutting the Cardinals deficit to two goals at 7-5.
Koestel slammed the door on the comeback opportunity for North Central with a pair of goals (6:24; 4:14) to secure the victory for Carthage.

Koestel led the way with three goals and an assist.
LeFevre scored three goals.
Nolan finished with a pair of goals.
Xochitl Delvale-Vera earned the win in goal with seven saves.
