MUNDELEIN — The Carthage College men's golf team competed at the Forester Spring Invite on April 18–19, finishing sixth with a team score of 577 (287+290) at Countryside Golf Club – Prairie Course.
Tanner Angelstad led the Firebirds, tying for eighth overall with a two-round score of 141. Angelstad opened with a 71 before firing a 70 in the final round.
James Tyrrell matched Angelstad's total, also tying for eighth with rounds of 69 and 72.
Alex Lilly tied for 26th after carding back-to-back rounds of 73 to finish at 146.
Nick Barry and Tayt Hager each tied for 42nd with identical totals of 149. Both players shot 74 on Day 1 followed by 75 in the second round.
Ethan Frasch tied for 49th with a 150 after rounds of 74 and 76.
Alex Lechuga and Elliot Leibham rounded out the Firebirds' top performances, each tying for 52nd with scores of 151. Lechuga improved by three strokes from his opening-round 77, while Leibham bounced back from a 78 with a 73.
The two-day tournament featured 20 teams and more than 100 individual competitors.

"Although I'm sure the guys would say we left way too many strokes out there, shooting a team total of 1 under par 277 on day one, and 2 over par 280 on day 2, is pretty darn good golf. In reality, that is gonna win most tournaments we play in. However, led by Aurora, currently ranked sixth in the country, this tournament was loaded at the top.
Countryside provides a strong test, but I think every player out there appreciated finally playing in decent weather, and a few excellent players shot extremely well.
Both Tanner and James earned top 10 honors, and if Alex could have gotten his putter going, I think he threatens to do the same. I thought all of us had an excellent approach on the course, I thought everyone represented themselves and their school extremely well, and I think there were a ton of positives to take away from this tournament."
- The Firebirds will now take part in the Take Back the Night Challenge hosted by Millikin at the South Side Country Club April 25-26.
