Callahan Homers Twice as Firebirds Roll Past Wheaton

KENOSHA - The Carthage College baseball team got back in the win column with a 15-2 win over Wheaton (Ill.) to start the weekend series with the Thunder.

How it Happened 
  • Christian Duarte opened the scoring for the Firebirds with an RBI single through the left side, bringing in Collin Callahan.
  • Carthage added four runs in the second inning, highlighted by Callahan's two-run home run.
  • After the Thunder responded with a solo homer, Carthage extended its lead to 10-1 with five runs in the fourth.
  • Three doubles from P.J. Moser, Duarte, and Matt Felber pushed the Firebirds ahead 13-1.
  • Wheaton (Ill.) hit another home run in the sixth, but Callahan answered with a two-run shot to make it 15-2.
  • Bryce Schaum recorded his fifth strikeout of the game, securing his third win of the season.

  • Drew Knecht tallied three hits, while Zander Tubbs and Christian Duarte each added two.
  • Bryce Schaum pitched all seven innings, recording a career-high 15 strikeouts.
  • Schaum's 15 strikeouts tied for the third-most in a single game, matching the record set on May 18, 1966.
