Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Women’s Water Polo Competes Against McKendree and Augustana

ROCK ISLAND - The Carthage College women's water polo team hit the road to Rock Island, Ill. Saturday afternoon. In game one the Carthage Firebirds faced the McKendree Bearcats in a non conference matchup. Game two brought a conference matchup against the Augustana Vikings.

How it Happened
Game One
  • The Firebirds were first to put points on the board with Grace Steinberg scoring in the seventh minute. Xiomara Trejo also scored two goals in the first period.
  • Trejo was the lone Firebird to score in the second period in the third minute.
  • Mak Werner and Trejo both put up goals for the Firebirds in the third period.
  • In the fourth period, Aubrey Korzyniewski scored with 53 seconds left on the clock.
  • The Firebirds took 23 shots on the Bearcats.
  • Trejo led the Firebirds in shots with six. 
Game Two
  • Yamila Areizaga scored in the fifth minute of the first period.
  • In the second period, Areizaga and Kiera Crawley scored in the sixth and third minute.
  • In the fourth period, Abigail Karpluk scored in the fourth minute. 
  • The Firebirds took 21 shots on the Vikings.
  • Areizaga led the Firebirds in shots with seven. 
  • Rylee McGee collected six saves.

High Flyers
  • The Firebirds collected 44 shots on the day.
  • McGee recorded six saves over two games. 
  • Areizaga led the Firebirds in shots with nine.
